Ronaldo Road Woes Continue

The pretty boy injured his knee, and Manchester United failed to win.  Despite 8 goals in 5 homes matches this season, Ronaldo has failed to score in United's 5 matches away from Old Trafford. What a wanker. United's free flowing footie in front of friendly fans is brilliant to watch, but the brand of football played on the road has failed to inspire.

On a personal note, I went with the bold (reckless?) move and decided not to captain Ronaldo last night after Scolari confirmed Lampard would be fit, and while fat Frank had a point-blank chance to get on the scoresheet and give Chelsea a deserved lead, the heroic Shay Given came to Newcastle's rescue.

Lampard was in all the right positions today and was at the center of Chelsea's attack - the team just forgot their finishing boots on the training ground, and Newcastle were also very organized (impressive, even) at the back.

Keep a close eye on Ronaldo's developing injury and his away from - a new fantasy footie rule may soon be written in stone - "Ronaldo rots on the road, go with Fat Frank for fantastic footie instead."

"I" - So I did the same thing and Capted Frank. Lots of close calls but no Pops. CR's "No Show" on the road is a solid pattern I will factor in from now on.

My Team at mid game... 700 points (with help from NCNB)...

Reina
Vidic Arbeloa Zayette Bosingwa
Lampard Geovanni Bentley CR
Anelka Bent

What would you do next?

Go Spurs!

Who's saying he injured his knee?

Source, please.

27 points with Bentley, Zaki, Arteta, and Figueroa to play. Could be worse, but not by much. To add insult to injury, I shipped Hart and Reo-Coker this week expecting neither to play, and both outplayed my new acquisitions, Delap and Turnbull, plus I left Schwarzer on the bench.

How about wasting 4 points on an extra transfer to bring in Belhadj for Turner (in a double move) AND leaving Schwarzer on the bench (for Turnbull)? That's 22 points right there. Yup. My season keeps getting better and better.

PS: Turner scored against Belhadj's Pompey, grabbing a bunch of points while ruining the clean sheet for Belhadj.

PPS: Turner scored as many points yesterday as he did in the 5 games combined that I had him before that.

PPPS: I hate Michael Turner as of yesterday.

PPPPS: I just picked up Stephen Ireland, so he'll probably never score again now. Stay clear.

The press describes Ronaldo's injury as a "leg injury," but he was clearly clutching his knee as he was replaced in the 81st... so we have to assume it's a knock/strain in that area.

I am sure he will do everything possible to make it for the Manchester derby next weekend...

Shelby - how much $ in the bank?

Should you downgrade Vidic to Agger and save money for an upgrade elsewhere?

0 in the bank Taylor Beattie Mullins and Schwarzer on the bench.

Dropping Isreal/Robinho for Bentley and Bent turned out to be a BUST (Plus the extra points for the double move) Isreal is doing great because I dropped him!!! Anelka is doing nothing because I picked him up! And so it goes...

Defoe looks almost certain to be out for a month now, and I don't have much wiggle room to replace him since I want to save my cash to upgrade Alex to A Cole. Right now I'm really liking Agbonlahor to fill in. With Zaki's health unknown and Newcastle's strike force returning (goodbye Ameobi), I may need to totally overhaul my entire strike force. Cisse has got my eye right now as far who to get for Zaki.

Cisse was in all the right positions against West Ham but lacked the final touch. I think the Cisse/Jones partnership will soon flourish (El Hadj Diouf looks like he's frozen out "Tevez style" at the moment) and Cisse could be a good differential selection - as long as he continues to drink his milk and his bones don't shatter...

Not sure about Carvalho but the timeline looks like this weekend. The tough thing with a Carvalho estimate is that the backups are so excellent (Ivanovic and Alex) that the older Portuguese man will never be rushed back too quickly... But when he is back, he should be a solid bonus point machine as well...

I still have dead weight (A. Traore and N. Bendtner) which I need to ship out and over $4M in the bank.

My primary target was Defoe before his injury, now I am switching gears to look at bringing back in A. Young after dropping him a few weeks back or perhaps going with Agbonlahor - both LONG term selections I will have faith in for the season and won't rotate out...

I've been hit terribly by injuuries and tony adams lack of faith in traore. Berbs, defoe and modric all on the sidelines...

I'm going to go with gabby instead of defoe, got in anelka last week in place of berbs...

Gabby is having a career year and villa have a nice run of games coming up, they can smell the cl spot now too so i expect them to be in top form...

might be time to give luke young another chance in defence, is he playing regularly?

Two straight 6 pt Luke Young clean sheets for me... on the Bench!

I think he's a bargain selection in what could be a Top 4 side - but he doesn't get forward too often, so I don't think he is an "automatic" fantasy starter - he is sort of like W. Bouma last season (a great bargain in comparison to Laursen) but don't expect too many offensive points...

That said, he is certainly going to see an increase in price if Aston Villa can keep more clean sheets than last year and continue their great run

ya, there aint many defenders who score lots of attacking points, a good value 6 points a week is worth 4.5m

if zaki doesn't recover form who are peopel looking at in the 6.5m range? bellamy? AJ?

I dropped defoe for agbonlahor. i also dropped zaki for cisse last week, not a great return but I think he'll pick up. young seems an interesting proposition, but im sticking with my 5-3-2

reina (c)
carragher,agger,bosingwa,carvalho,taylor
ronaldo, arteta, geovanni
robinho, agbonlahor

subs: schwarzer,cisse,ashbee,barmby

i never captain ronaldo away, nor robinho, so should i just captain reina and take the 12/14 points?

Matt - I (almost) never captain goalkeepers or defenders. One mis-timed tackle by a defender in the box to force a penalty and the whole week is ruined to a 2pt 90 mins played week... forwards/mid always have a chance at assists/goals and generally score higher - but this season, captaining Bosingwa, Agger, Cech, or Reina mat actually be the way to go many weeks...
